Engineering for
contractors and developers
Temporary Works · 3D Modelling · BIM · Structural Elements · MEP · Feasibility
Technical engineering support from pre-construction feasibility through design coordination to delivery. We provide the engineering capability that contractors and developers need at each stage of a project — without the overhead of an in-house team.
Technical capability across the full project lifecycle
Engineering challenges do not respect the boundaries between design and construction. Temporary works need to be coordinated with permanent design. BIM models need to reflect how the building is being built. MEP services need to be commissioned in sequence with the programme.
Matthews & Roberts provides engineering services that sit at that interface — technical enough to engage with design, practical enough to reflect construction reality. We work for contractors on live delivery projects and for developers from feasibility through procurement.
Our engineering services connect directly to our management and development services, providing a joined-up capability across the projects we are involved in.

Engineering services for contractors and developers across the UK.
Six areas of engineering support
Each service addresses a specific engineering need at a specific stage of a project. They can be engaged individually or combined as a coordinated package.
From feasibility to construction
Engineering feasibility, 3D modelling and structural coordination are as relevant to a developer preparing a planning application as to a contractor building out the scheme. We provide engineering input at both ends — and across the handover between them.
Our Development services cover the lifecycle from land acquisition through planning, procurement and turnkey delivery. Engineering supports those services wherever technical input is needed.
Engineering services explained
Matthews & Roberts provides six engineering services for UK contractors and developers: Temporary Works Design, 3D Modelling and BIM, Structural Building Elements coordination, Design Management, MEP Coordination and Engineering Feasibility Studies. Services can be provided individually or combined as part of a wider project engagement.
Yes. Our engineering services are provided to both contractors and developers. For developers, engineering input typically begins at feasibility stage and runs through design coordination and planning. For contractors, we provide design management, BIM coordination, temporary works and MEP coordination through construction and handover.
Yes. We provide temporary works design and coordination in accordance with BS 5975:2019. This covers propped excavations, falsework, formwork, shoring, hoarding, access scaffold and the coordination, checking and permit-to-load process. We can fulfil the designer, checker or Temporary Works Coordinator role depending on project requirements.
We primarily work in Autodesk Revit for 3D modelling, Navisworks for federated model management and clash detection, and AutoCAD for 2D production. We accept models in IFC format from other platforms and can adapt our workflow to project BIM Execution Plan requirements.
Yes. Engineering and management services are designed to complement each other. Design management, for example, works directly alongside project management and programme management. Temporary works design interfaces with CDM compliance and health and safety. BIM coordination connects to the construction programme. The services are most effective when combined.
Yes. Engineering feasibility is one of the earliest inputs we provide to developers — establishing what is technically achievable on a site, what the engineering cost envelope looks like and what constraints will shape the design. This typically connects to our land acquisition and development management services.
