Development management explained
Development management is the professional oversight of a development project from inception through completion. It involves coordinating the design team, managing the procurement of a contractor, overseeing construction delivery, controlling cost and programme, and representing the developer's interests at every stage. The development manager acts as the developer's representative throughout.
Development management typically takes a wider view — covering the full lifecycle from land and inception through to handover and sometimes beyond into asset management. Project management often focuses on the construction phase. In practice the roles can overlap, and Matthews & Roberts is able to provide both depending on what the scheme requires.
We have experience across residential, commercial, mixed-use, industrial and refurbishment schemes. The scale of project ranges from single-building schemes through to larger phased developments. We tailor our approach to the type and complexity of the project.

Yes. We are experienced in stepping into development management roles part-way through a scheme — establishing current status, identifying risks, restructuring reporting and taking the project forward. We carry out a structured review of the project position before assuming management responsibility.
